Thanks so much for your comment, Suzanne. About those claps: there isn't much I understand about Medium's mindset but the claps just baffle me. I mean, why give readers such a broad range--one to 50--if they don't mean anything? Of course they do! And because we know they do, we spend way too much time stewing over them, feeling insulted, etc. I wish they would do away with them altogether, but then I wish a lot of things were different...
