My Sympathies to Roseanne Barr
She has met the enemy and it is her.
Roseanne Barr has been on my mind lately, and if that seems strange to you, you can’t even imagine how strange it feels to me. I don’t even like Roseanne. Who could? She does everything she can do to make sure we don’t like her.
And here’s the part that’s even stranger: I’m beginning to feel sorry for her.
No, not beginning. I feel sorry for her. Roseanne. That person.
She’s falling apart. We’re seeing it in real time and it’s getting harder and harder to watch.
Last May Jimmy Kimmel got in trouble for coming to Roseanne Barr’s defense after she posted a racist tweet about Barack Obama’s former aide, Valerie Jarrett. In the speedy aftermath, Roseanne lost her job — on her brand new namesake show — and the Interverse went wild. I was right there among those calling for her head.
You could count on two hands the number of non-Trump people who sided with Roseanne, even after it became clear that she was unraveling before our very eyes. She’s easy to dislike. She has a history of crazy outbursts, of vile attacks on people who have never done her harm. She cackles as she sides with Donald Trump and the Right Wing mob, promoting the latest conspiracy theories, digging in her talons, snarling with her…
