Lol. I think you’re onto something — especially that part about “being the most important person in the universe”!
I love it! We talk about, complain about, commiserate about our writing because any career where creativity is key requires an ego so huge it’s constantly in danger of shattering.
If we mess up at any other job well, okay, we mess up. Tomorrow’s another day. But when we mess up when we write or draw or paint or make music, our only tools are what we produce with our heads, hearts, and imaginations. We’re the complete and total factory. It’s all on us.
That’s why we’re always scared. And why we have to pretend we aren’t.
We wouldn’t keep going otherwise.
