I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Sorry. I can’t see a downside to greater union presence, if that’s what you’re saying. It’s the only viable representation workers can hope for. Collective bargaining, as diminished as it may be, is still better than trying to make a case on their own.
As for May Day’s ‘Soviet’ connotation — it was handy as a reason to keep American workers from using it as a day of protest, if not enlightenment. No Socialists allowed!
Workers’ struggles are world-wide and this is the day for real solidarity, a reminder of the human aspect of labor. If ‘adapting to change’ means giving in and living with today’s reality, this day is a reminder that we’re not there yet. And as long as we fight, we never will be.
