I’m fairly new to Medium. I joined in 2018 but didn’t do much until February of this year, so I’m still learning about its complexities. I know there was a kerfuffle about the paywall, and that’s what stopped me for a long time, too. I didn’t like the idea at all. That and the clapping. It still seems a bit silly.

But I feel in my element here and have been writing pretty consistently — much more than I did for a full year before I joined. I’m just going to do my best and see where it leads. I had no expectations going in and nothing has changed.
