I look on feminism as solidarity. It takes many forms, some I may even disagree with, but I'm a proud feminist now. I say 'now' because I wasn't always. I was a stay-at-home mom when the movement started, yet I was a charter subscriber to Ms Magazine. I loved what I was seeing at first, but, as with most movements, it wasn't gaining strength fast enough and it went militant.

Hating men was in vogue. So was burning bras. I wasn't into either of those things and eventually I drifted away. But Roe v Wade and Title IX drew me back and I've been all about empowering women ever since.

I think most of us see that as the goal. Whether or not we call ourselves 'feminists' is a personal choice. I like the word. It's succinct and descriptive, telling anyone who cares to listen that this is where I'm coming from.
