Good advice, Scott. I think the last thought is as important as the first paragraph. It sometimes takes me longer to wrap up a piece than it does to write the entire thing. If the reader takes the time to read the entire thing, I want them to go away fully satisfied. The last paragraph should resonate--leave them thinking about what they've just read. And I have to say, many of the stories you've chosen here have done it very well!
