Excellent advice, Kelly. I do some editing on the side and I agree with everything you've said here. Keeping it conversational can be hard when you're passionate about getting information out, but readers are fickle. They don't need to read us. We have to make them want to. They have to feel we know they're there and we have to make it worth their while.

I've never used Grammarly but other writers have warned against relying on it exclusively. I wonder how useful it really is? Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? I see some truly wooden pieces on Medium and wonder if it's because they're relying on a program that isn't human and doesn't know what they're trying to say.
