Be as honest as you’re comfortable being, Shannon. Don’t flagellate yourself if this kind of honesty is painful, but see it as the road to healing. Because what is happening to you isn’t something you should be ashamed of. That kind of weight gain isn’t about indulgence, it’s about illness.

Just as we have to see depression as a physical illness, so should we see obesity. There is more to it than just overeating. Much, if not most of it is not your fault. No amount of self-control can cure a physical illness. No amount of wishing it away will make it happen.

You need professional support and if you’re not finding the right support you need to keep looking. The only way you’ll succeed at this is to stop blaming yourself and look to the pros.

My heart is with you. You are strong and brave and we know this because you show us in your writing. Don’t be hard on yourself. You deserve better.
